The first electric shaver appeared in the 1930′s, it was invented by a guy named Jacob Schick. He was a well traveled man, he needed something that would give him a great shave without water and traveled well. The electric razor was born, throughout the years there have been much advancement, but the main benefits stay the same.
Benefits of going electric
- No water needed. Electric shavers were designed to shave without the use of water. Although there are shavers that are designed for wet shaving, typically these are used in the shower or for people who have sensitive skin.
- Travels Well. Most electric shavers are battery powered and can be used on the go. Some men shave during red lights on their commute to work, they’re handy for camping trips where modern convinces are not available.
- Quick and easy. Shaving with an electric requires less preparation and less clean up than wet shaving. Wet shaving involves a few more tools like a brush, soap or cream, and razor, and these extra tools will need to be cleaned thoroughly. With electric shaving, depending on your skin, you can get away with a quick shave without any cleaning at all, this is not recommended however.
- Safer and less irritation. All electric shavers have a protective foil over the blades, so the skin makes the least amount of contact with the blades. This leads to less irritation like razor burn ingrown hairs, and cuts.
The electric razor offers many conveniences, but there are disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that you may not get the closest shave; there is no direct blade to skin contact. Another disadvantage is the time between shaves is shorter, and some may notice the five o’clock shadow arrives early. Even so many men are pleased with the shave they get from an electric. There are generally two kinds of electric razors, the differences are small, but they exist.
